Ingredients
  

Pastry Dough
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter cold, cubed
  • 0.75 cup milk cold
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 7 g active dry yeast 1 packet
Cream Cheese Filling
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 0.5 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tbsp heavy cream optional, to reach desired consistency
Cherry Topping
  • 1 cup cherry preserves
  • fresh cherries optional for garnish
Egg Wash
  • 1 egg beaten with 1 tsp water

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm milk and let sit 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add yeast-milk mixture and vanilla, knead lightly until soft dough forms.
  5. Cover and let dough rise 1–2 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla for filling; add cream if needed.
  7. Roll dough into rectangle, cut into 6–8 pieces. Spread cream cheese filling and top with cherry preserves.
  8. Fold edges slightly to form borders. Brush with egg wash.
  9. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden.
  10. Cool 5–10 minutes, garnish with fresh cherries and powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Store in airtight container at room temp 1–2 days, refrigerate up to 5 days, or freeze for 2 months.
