Method
- Dissolve yeast in warm milk and let sit 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, and salt.
- Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add yeast-milk mixture and vanilla, knead lightly until soft dough forms.
- Cover and let dough rise 1–2 hours until doubled in size.
- Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla for filling; add cream if needed.
- Roll dough into rectangle, cut into 6–8 pieces. Spread cream cheese filling and top with cherry preserves.
- Fold edges slightly to form borders. Brush with egg wash.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden.
- Cool 5–10 minutes, garnish with fresh cherries and powdered sugar if desired.
