Ingredients
  

Pudding Base
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup cornstarch
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 4 egg yolks large
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
Layers & Topping
  • 4-5 bananas sliced
  • 11 oz vanilla wafers
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar

Method
 

  1. Whisk sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a saucepan. Slowly add milk and cook over medium heat until thickened.
  2. Temper egg yolks with hot milk mixture, then return to saucepan and cook until smooth.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract.
  4. Layer vanilla wafers, bananas, and warm custard in a serving dish.
  5. Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and spread over pudding.
  6. Chill at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

For best flavor, refrigerate overnight before serving.
