Ingredients
  

Cake Batter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs large
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
Swirl Mixture
  • 0.5 cup cocoa powder
  • 0.5 cup hot water
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
Orange Icing
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp orange zest

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 10-inch bundt pan.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Mix in buttermilk, sour cream, and vegetable oil until combined.
  6. Add dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  7. Prepare chocolate swirl by mixing cocoa powder with hot water, then add powdered sugar.
  8. Divide batter; add chocolate swirl to half and mix.
  9. Layer vanilla and chocolate batter in the bundt pan, then swirl gently with a knife.
  10. Bake 45–55 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10–15 minutes in pan, then invert onto a wire rack.
  11. Mix icing ingredients until smooth, add orange food coloring if desired.
  12. Drizzle icing over cooled cake and decorate with Halloween candies.

Notes

For best results, cool completely before icing. Use room temperature ingredients for a tender crumb.
