Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.25 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 egg large
Filling
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter softened
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh basil chopped
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme optional
Cheese
  • 1.5 cups mozzarella shredded
  • 0.5 cup cheddar shredded
  • 0.25 cup Parmesan grated

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Activate yeast in warm milk and sugar for 5–10 minutes.
  2. Mix flour and salt, then add yeast mixture, oil, and egg.
  3. Knead until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let dough rise until doubled.
  5. Spread garlic herb butter and cheese over rolled dough.
  6. Roll, slice lengthwise, twist, and place in loaf pan.
  7. Rise again 30–40 minutes.
  8. Bake at 350°F for 35–40 minutes until golden.

Notes

For extra crisp edges, bake 5 minutes longer uncovered.
